[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Alaska, the summer of 1998. Went along with my aunt, grandma and brother. Didn’t take a lot of pictures. Flew to Anchorage, rode the train to Denali and Fairbanks and then rode a bus down the Alaska Highway through the Yukon before taking a cruise ship from Skagway to Vancouver.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Arrived in Anchorage in the afternoon. The next day we toured the city and the area. The main stop was at the Portage Glacier.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661623220-8c0f05c5-52c0-1″ include=”155,156″][vc_column_text]We left the next day and rode the train to Denali National Park. The next day we toured the park. Both days were clear and we saw Mt. McKinley which is apparently pretty rare. Saw some other wildlife as well. Then got back on the train and rode it to Fairbanks.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661623228-586c80d7-85e2-10″ include=”157,158,159,167″][vc_column_text]Fairbanks is about the size of York, maybe a bit smaller. We stopped at the end of the Alaskan Highway. Lousy picture with me but there was a metal roof that was reflecting the sun right into my eyes. Since this was the summer there was almost total daylight which took some getting used to. We also went on a riverboat trip on the Chena River, toured a gold dredge, panned for gold and visited the Pipeline.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661623263-11dd3d6f-c8c6-1″ include=”160,161,162,163,164″][vc_column_text]Now it time to head down the Alaska Highway into the Yukon. Saw some of the wonders of the Yukon and I also saw Mt. Logan (the highest point in Canada) but didn’t take a picture. Stopped in Whitehorse, the capitol of the Yukon Territory. The biggest thing I remember there was that they had Star Trek: The Animated Series on TV. I had read about that but had never seen an episode. Hey, I’m 15, gimme a break.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661623266-7027efc8-d8f3-5″ include=”154,170,172,171″][vc_column_text]Continued down the Alaska Highway into British Columbia and rode the train to Skagway. From there we picked up a cruise ship and saw Glacier Bay National Park and stopped at Skagway before ending in Vancouver to fly home.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661623269-ae4fc999-ff65-1″ include=”165,166,174,175,176,168,169″][vc_btn title=”Back to My Travels” style=”3d” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftheworldneedsmorekevin.com%2Fmy-travels%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
