Chicago Rugby Weekend 2016

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Oh boy, Ireland against the New Zealand All Blacks. I bought two tickets when they went on sale expecting my brother to want to come along. He didn’t. He’s a Packers fan and they wound up playing a home game the next day, so I never want to hear about him wanting to see Lambeau Field.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The first stop was in Cleveland, had to stretch my legs after 5 1/2 hours in the car. The Cubs had defeated the Indians the day before to win the World Series. The town was down. I didn’t think about it until later but it may not have been the best thing to mention that I was on my way to Chicago. Paid visits to Great Lakes Brewing, Market Garden and Nano Brew. Would have done Platform too but they had not opened yet.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Made a stop in South Bend to let traffic dissipate in Chicago and took a walk around town. Should have also visited the Father Corby statue on Notre Dame’s campus. Dinner was at a pizza joint downtown with a beer at South Bend Brew Works.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1579548747459-caa343c5-b02c-7″ include=”2338,2339,2340,2341,2342,2343,2344″][vc_column_text]An absolutely gorgeous day in Chicago to witness history. Not only was this the largest crowd ever to watch a rugby match in the US but this was also the first time that Ireland had ever beaten New Zealand. Didn’t actually realize that until later that night when I saw it on the ESPN bottom line (to see rugby mentioned there was also a surprise!). I sat next to an Irishman and his son but I think most people in the crowd had no idea what was going on. Hopefully that will start to change. To say that this was a pro Irish crowd is an understatement. Enjoy some game pics!

I also ventured up to Wrigley Field since the Cubs had just won the World Series. That area was quite busy. Lunch at Lucky’s to boot. A Primanti Brothers sandwich on steroids. Beer stops at Vice District and Motor Row. Wanted to do Revolution too since that was on the train ride back but no dice.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1579548747459-17c612f9-318e-4″ include=”2345,2346,2347,2348,2349,2350,2351,2352,2353,2354,2355,2356,2357,2358,2359,2360,2361,2362,2363,2364,2365,2366,2367,2368,2369,2370,2371,2372,2373,2374,2375,2376,2377,2378,2379,2380,2381,2382,2383,2384,2385,2386,2387,2388,2389,2390,2391,2392,2393,2394,2395,2396,2397,2398,2399,2400,2402,2403,2404,2405,2406,2407″][vc_btn title=”Back to My Travels” style=”3d” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftheworldneedsmorekevin.com%2Fmy-travels%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
