[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Off to the Rockies now. Began in Salt Lake City, traveled up into Idaho (briefly) and then into Wyoming. Saw Grant Teton and Yellowstone. Then into Montana up to Glacier National Park and its Canadian companion Waterton Lake. While there, at the ago of 20, I had my first legal beer at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Here is some Kevin trivia! It was a Big Rock Prince of Wales Lager and it was purchased for me by my aunt. I have both the bottle and the mug still. Following that we went up to Kananaskis Country and then into Banff before flying home from Calgary.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Salt Lake City and Idaho
Didn’t have much time to Salt Lake City but I found it extremely clean and vibrant. Of course the Mormon faith dominates the state as evidence by the Mormon Tabernacle downtown but that is quite a nice looking building. This was the first trip I took using a digital camera. After walking around downtown for a bit and snapping some pictures I realized that the memory card that I had purchased was not going to be enough and I am glad that we at least started in civilization so that I could purchase a bigger one. Found a 128 Mb card in a shopping mall in downtown for something like $75. When I look back on that I laugh at the price but it was not funny then. I wound up using every available piece of memory for this trip.
We briefly crossed into Idaho. Stopped for lunch in Montpelier, which is on US 30. To think that home was 2,000 some miles down that road.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861688-f820a761-1827-10″ include=”1718,1719,1720,1721″][vc_column_text]
Grand Teton
A smaller but yet very impressive mountain range south of Yellowstone. In a way I liked it here more.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861695-7ec1fdd7-ad3a-9″ include=”1701,1702,1703,1704,1705,1706,1707,1708,1709,1710″][vc_column_text]
Yellowstone
We did not hit some of the areas in the park which was disappointing and is a reason why I started traveling by car rather than looking for a tour. I missed the Morning Glory Pool and only had about 20 minutes at the Norris Basin. I’ll be back one day but it was here that I was darn glad I had a digital camera.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861701-12f47d12-f718-3″ include=”1728,1729,1730,1731,1732,1733,1734,1735,1736,1737,1738,1739,1740,1741,1742,1743,1744,1745,1746,1747,1748,1749,1750,1751,1752,1753,1754,1755,1756,1757,1758,1759,1760,1761,1762,1763,1764,1765,1766,1767,1768,1769,1770,1771,1772,1773,1774,1775,1776,1777,1778,1779,1780,1781,1782,1783,1784,1785,1786,1787″][vc_column_text]
Grant-Kohrs Ranch and Montana
This ranch is a unit of the National Park Service. Quite a different life than what I am used to. Then on to Missoula for the night. Nice little town. Was hoping to take in an Ospreys game since we got there on a Sunday afternoon but they played a day game. Missed out on some hot Pioneer League action.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861705-6004f4bd-a0d5-8″ include=”1711,1712,1717″][vc_column_text]
Glacier National Park
While Yellowstone was the highlight of the trip Glacier certainly surprised me. I really liked it here. There was a wildfire in Oregon burning and that is the reason some of the pictures look a little hazy.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861710-480505d0-29c1-9″ include=”1689,1690,1691,1692,1693,1694,1695,1696,1697,1698,1699,1700,1685,1686,1687,1688″][vc_column_text]
Waterton Lakes National Park
Just north of Glacier in Alberta is Lake Waterton. We crossed into Canada on Canada Day and had a nice boat ride out on the lake. Crossed back into the US, didn’t need any papers or go through any passport control. Don’t know if it’s changed since but I guess they figure terrorists don’t want to have to hike through the Rockies to get to civilization.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861831-2266f2d4-c04b-10″ include=”1722,1723,1724,1725,1726,1727″][vc_column_text]
Kananaskis Country
This is a series of Provincial Parks in Canada. It looks much the same as Banff and some of the resorts were used for the Winter Olympics when they were in Calgary.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861841-be4e2aba-0237-6″ include=”1713,1714,1715,1716″][vc_column_text]
Banff National Park
My aunt wanted to see Lake Louise and wanted the famous picture that circulates of it. Well that wasn’t going to happen, it was taken either from the top of the mountain or from a helicopter and we didn’t have the time for me to hike up to the top of the mountain lol. The rest of the park was quite spectacular. One day I will get back and also head further north and visit Jasper.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ item=”mediaGrid_BlurWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1514661861846-72e05ce5-ce4b-5″ include=”1677,1678,1679,1680,1681,1682,1683,1684″][vc_btn title=”Back to My Travels” style=”3d” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftheworldneedsmorekevin.com%2Fmy-travels%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
