[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]As I started to get interested in minor league baseball again one option that was sitting to the north was Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. I never saw a game at the old stadium and when I thought about heading up this way they spent the year renovating and rebuilding the current stadium. I have seen at least one game a year here since the new stadium opened.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1543963574002-d9d29e34-0202-9″ include=”4752,4753,4754″][vc_column_text]

How did I get there?

It’s a fairly easy shot up I-81, especially when I get past Harrisburg. The drive can be scenic in some places as you get into the mountains though there is not much to see in other places. The stadium is accessible from two different exits off of I-81 near Scranton.  There is a shopping center and a few fast food restaurants off of the exit so if you don’t want to eat stadium food or get there too early there is a way to kill some time. Parking used to be free but is now $5.

Ticket prices

Prices seem to be in line with the rest of AAA. You can get a great seat for $12 or just sit in the lawn (or stand) for $8. Much cheaper then seeing the parent club and the Yankees have had some pretty good prospects come through here in recent years.

Finding my seat and amenities

Seating areas are clearly marked and it is easy to find your seat. The food is your typical stadium fare with a few local places mixed in like with the local Old Forge style pizza but it is mostly just your normal stadium food like hot dogs or chicken tenders and fries.

In game experience

You have your typical minor league experience here. There is an on-field host (who is pretty good) and the usual stable of games and entertainment. They have several Yankee legends race during the game. There are a lot of people in the area who are fans of the Phillies and this team used to be a Phillies farm team until it was moved to Lehigh Valley. I guess the Yankees are the next best thing but I’m guessing that a lot of people still side with Philly. To check this out I should come up when the play the Iron Pigs sometime.

Getting out

This can be a bit of a hassle. There is one way out of the parking lot onto a two lane road. While I-81 is nearby you have to go through three lights which in previous years have taken awhile to change. It seems in 2017 the timing on the lights was changed (or the cops are controlling them) and is not as much of a problem. The good news, if you could call it that, is that the Rail Riders don’t draw as well as the Iron Pigs or some other AAA teams do.

Wrap

The stadium is fairly new and is built into the side of Montage Mountain. Other than that there is nothing really special about it. It takes me a little over 2 hours to get here and I usually show up for bobbleheads and when the Indianapolis Indians come to town but they also hosted the AAA World Series in 2017 which was an exciting event to attend. If I lived in the area I would attend more often but with a 2+ hour drive there is nothing special about the place to get me up for a game and Lehigh is closer with a better park.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Back to AAA” style=”3d” color=”blue” align=”left” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftheworldneedsmorekevin.com%2Fbaseball%2Faaa%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
