[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I’ve seen four games at Wrigley Field. First back in 2009 when I drove out to see my Pirates play the White Sox and the Cubs on Memorial Day weekend and I saw two games. It was cold and rainy but hey, Mr. T was the special guest. The next time was in 2017. A friend of mine is a Cubs fan and we drove out to take in the Pirates/Cubs series.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1514557520907-8e3e6188-58b1-2″ include=”4703,4707,4706,4698,4704,4705,4708,4700,4699,4702,4701,4688,4689,4690,4691,4692,4693,4694,4695,4696,4697″][vc_column_text]
How did I get there?
Rode the CTA there. In 2009 I stayed downtown near a Red Line station so it was easy to get to both stadiums. In 2017 I stayed out in Arlington Heights near Rosemont and rode the CTA in from there.
Ticket prices
Expensive does not begin to describe Cubs prices. They were expensive in 2009 when the Cubs were good but not great and they only went up after they won the World Series in 2016. We’re talking $44 to sit at the end of the upper deck (and I do mean the end). I looked at sitting in the bleachers but they were more expensive then in the seating bowl. Only at Wrigley.
Finding my seat and amenities
Not hard to find the seats, they are well marked. The first time I was there this was a no frills ballpark. The only real hint of modern technology was a small ribbon board in the outfield. Now there is a huge jumbo tron and all of the frills of a modern park. I have to admit I liked it the old way better since it is just nice to step back into time sometimes. I have never eaten here, though I did eat at Lucky’s down the street.
In game experience
For the most part I found Cubs fans to be very nice, as I have when I have seen them play in other stadiums. It’s hard to hate the Cubs (before they won it all). I had my Pirates hat on and no one flipped me the bird or anything like you would expect in the Bronx but then it’s hard to hate the Pirates as well. They have the usual stable of in game entertainment.
Getting out
This can be a major problem. It is a neighborhood park so parking is limited and streets are not wide. The Interstate is nowhere near the park. I, like most people, rode the CTA to the game. If you leave before the game is over the lines are not long. If you wait until the game is over it can take an hour to get from your seat and into the station. Of the four games I’ve been to I’ve stayed for the entire game twice and left early twice. One of those was called due to rain. The other the Pirates put up 10 in the first inning and my Cubs friend was ready to go after 5. It was along drive home after all!
Wrap
Wrigley was renovated and being a bigger guy I found the seats here much more comfortable. There are still poles that can block views but not near the number at Fenway. I will go back to Wrigley anytime before I step foot back in Fenway again.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Back to the National League” color=”primary” align=”left” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftheworldneedsmorekevin.com%2Fbaseball%2Fnational-league%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
